Getting there and around

Airport
Florence Peretola Airport or Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci, is located 4 km from the center of Florence. A taxi can make the trip in 15 minutes, and the Bus between the airport and Santa Maria Novella railway station takes 20 minutes.
If you are coming into Florence from an international destination, you are probably using Galileo Galilei airport, closer to Pisa.

The Volainubus Airport Shuttle connects Vespucci Airport to downtown Florence.
Galileo Galilei has direct and relatively inexpensive train services to Florence.

Public transport
Florence's central station is called Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The train station is located in the northwest corner of central Florence, within convenient walking distance of most Florence tourist attractions.

ATAF and LI-NEA together maintain the city's public transportation system. Tickets and bus passes can be purchased at the ATAF ticket booth at Piazza Stazione (you can get a timetable of buses as well). You can buy a bus ticket at any tobacconist (indicated by a large "T" on a black sign on the outside of the shop) displaying an orange A.T.A.F. sticker on the door or window. All tickets must be time stamped using the machines on board the buses. Late night (9.00pm to 6.00am) tickets can usually be purchased from the bus driver.

Traffic is restricted in the city centre, so it's best to park a little out of town and walk around - parking in the more central areas is very expensive. Taxis wait outside Stazione di Santa Maria Novella, or you can phone one.
